Dante Allen, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Montverde (FL) Academy, has had a busy couple of weekends, taking back-to-back trips to SEC schools Tennessee and Georgia.
He is working with a top four of those schools, along with Notre Dame and Villanova.
Allen tripped to Georgia this weekend.
“It was good, I enjoyed being on campus,” he said Sunday by phone. “They really took advantage of the two days I could be there. Their message is that they’ve got a lot of good guards this year, and they’ve got a couple fifth-year guys out of portal. For next year, they don’t have too many on their depth chart, so they’re looking for guards. And they came to me and expressed interest, and I was able to get up there and see the campus and see a couple of practices to see how they operate, how they function. I just kind of felt the vibe there.”
The Georgia trip followed a visit to Tennessee last weekend.
“It was good to be around [head coach Rick Barnes], not just as a coach, because obviously he’s a great hall of fame coach,” Allen previously told ZAGSBLOG. “But off the court he’s a great person too. I think the thing he wanted me to know is they’re losing some of their guards. Zakai Zeigler, he’ll be gone after this year. So they want other guards to come in there and play that role. And that’s where he thinks I can come in and have an impact. Play hard, play within their system. Just kind of be able to come in and easily be able to play a role with them.”
Next up he heads to Villanova Sept. 21.
“They’ve been talking to me since sophomore year on and off, and then once they were able to communicate with me is when the talks really [heated] up. They’ll have a couple more guards left, but they still see me as a major priority, as somebody who can come in and make an impact immediately, someone who kind of fits with the team and matches with them and has the same persona as some of the other guys there.”
He previously visited Notre Dame in late June.
Following Villanova, he will assess his future plans and timeline.
“After Villanova, I will have taken a visit to all my top four and I will be able to sit down and take everything from all the visits and kind of decide on things from there,” he said.
