It’s the first of two bye week Fridays for the Dawgs. Some of y’all may be attending weddings, others might be going apple picking. Regardless, everyone will be cheering for Oklahoma against Tennessee.
Aside from Oklahoma vs. Tennessee, Dawg fans should be keeping an eye on Clemson vs. NC State. The more Clemson wins, the better – especially against an NC State team that represents Tennessee’s best win of the season.
Elsewhere in the SEC, the much deserving, high-flying, no-doubt-about-it best team in the country Texas Longhorns will be starting their backup quarterback, Arch Manning (of course), this weekend as Quinn Ewers nurses an abdominal injury. Ewers sitting out could affect his Heisman frontrunner status, but more importantly, if Manning balls out again this weekend versus UL Monroe, we could have a delightful quarterback controversy over the rest of the season or at least until October 19th.
In the NFL ranks, Mel Kiper of ESPN went on a rant about how the league should ban the two-high safety look on defense. Passing touchdowns are down significantly in the NFL, and running backs have been heavily devalued over the last decade or so, but this is still outlandish clownwork by Kiper. I’m hoping he is just the fall guy ESPN chose to put this out in the ethos and not his actual thoughts.
