There are really only a precious few college football Saturdays remaining in the 2024 season, and I have some bad news. This is probably not the most compelling of them.
There are no top 25 matchups on the slate, and only a handful of top 10 teams playing in the early timeslot. Nevertheless, we make our fun where we find it, and there are certainly some games with fun potential here. The early schedule is as follows:
12 p.m. | Florida at No. 5 Texas | ABC/ESPN+ 12 p.m.
Florida stands less than no chance of winning this game in my estimation. There have been whispers that DJ Lagway might return at quarterback, but he certainly is not going to be 100%, which he would need to be against this Texas defense to give the Gators a shot. This one is really just another chance to watch Florida lose a football game. That’s a worthwhile endeavor in my book, as it should be in yours
No. 4 Miami (Fla.) at Georgia Tech | ESPN 12 p.m.
Miami has teetered on the edge of disaster all season, yet somehow remains undefeated. They have assumed the mantle usually worn by the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles as the undefeated fraud Kings of the Almost Competent Conference. At some point the Hurricanes are going to run up against a team that can bottle up Cam Ward. I just don’t think this Yellow Jacket squad is the one to do it.
Purdue at No. 3 Ohio State | FOX 12 p.m.
I Purdue think the Boilermakers play with the Buckeyes for a little bit. But I Purdon’t think they pull the upset in Columbus in the end.
West Virginia at Cincinnati | FS1 12 p.m.
Of all the college football games that will be played today, this is one of them.
Minnesota at Rutgers | NBC12 p.m.
If you have no personal stake in it yet find yourself watching this football game. I urge you to reach out to me. There are people who can who care and want to help you.
Navy at South Florida | ESPN2 12 p.m.
No longer undefeated but still wildly entertaining, the Navy Midshipmen will be taking on a USF team that may well have once again peaked in kind of, sort of scaring Alabama early in the year.
Syracuse at Boston College | CW Network
Coach Fran Brown’s suddenly bowl eligible Orangemen travel to Boston looking to rob the Eagles’ nest. Look, there’s a graphic and everything.

Only on the CW. I assume there’ll be a rerun of The Vampire Diaries afterward, so you may want to stick around for that.
we will be back shortly with the first half thread for the college football game that really matters on the Saturday afternoon afternoon. Until then…
