With the college football season set to kick off later this month, the Georgia Bulldogs have decided to dismiss Rara Thomas from the team.
This decision isn’t that shocking. Thomas, a senior wide receiver, was arrested last Friday on two counts of battery and one count of second-degree cruelty to children.
Thomas wasn’t released from jail until July 30. The Athens-Clarke County Police released him once he posted his $3,500 bond.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart told reporters that he informed Thomas that he’s been dismissed from the team during a face-to-face meeting.
“I met with Rara on Tuesday and had a chance to talk to him face to face, which was important, but I informed him that he could no longer be a part of this team, and he understood that,” Smart said, via The Athletic.
Thomas started his college career at Mississippi State in 2021. After hauling in 44 passes for 626 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022, he decided to take his talents to Georgia.
Last season, Thomas had 383 receiving yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs. He was expected to have a larger role on offense this fall.
Thomas is the second player to get dismissed from Georgia’s football team in recent months. David Daniel-Sisavanh was let go after violating team rules.
