The number one ranked Georgia Bulldogs will kick-off their home opener tomorrow on Vince Dooley field at Sanford stadium against the Tennesee Tech Golden Eagles. It’s no secret that this one is just a glorified scrimmage as the Dawgs will look to sharpen up their skills before beginning SEC play while the Golden Eagles collect a nice paycheck.
Carson Beck and this Dawgs’ offense will look to continue to find some consistency on the offensive side of the ball as it isn’t expected for Georgia to open up the playbook that much. Freshman running-back, Nate Frazier will more than likely get more carries than last week as he rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in his Collegiate debut against Clemson. It still isn’t known if Trevor Etienne or Roderick Robinson will play in tomorrow’s game as both guys could be a game time decision, so it’s possible we see Cash Jones and Freshman Chauncey Bowers get more carries as well. If all goes according to plan, Georgia’s starters should be out of the game by the third quarter which means we could see guys like Gunner Stockton, Jaden Rashada, and many others take some meaningful snaps on Saturday.
Top match-up (Jordyn Potts vs. Georgia Defense)
The one key bright-spot on the Golden Eagles roster is their Sophomore Quarterback, Jordyn Potts. Potts is coming off of a performance where he completed 27 passes on 38 attempts for 256 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-25 loss against Middle Tennessee State. Potts’ top target was Senior receiver, Ashton Maples as Maples racked in three catches for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns as he will be a guy Georgia’s secondary will look to shut down.
Though MTSU’s defense isn’t really comparable to Georgia’s, it is still worth noting as Tennessee Tech will definitely take their shots against the Dawgs. Georgia’s defense is coming off of a stellar performance against Clemson where they only allowed 188 total yards and also caused one turnover as we saw Malaki Starks make another incredible interception in Mercedes Benz. As mentioned earlier, if everything goes the way it’s supposed to; we should see a lot of talented underclassmen get a good amount of reps for the Dawgs’ defense. A couple of names worth keeping an eye on will be true Freshmen Justin Williams and K.J. Bolden as both guys made an impact last week in the limited playing time they received, so it is expected they will make an even bigger one this weekend as their rep range should go up.
