There’s no denying that Kirby Smart is one of the best head coaches in college football today and might one day rank as one of the best ever. However, a slew of recent arrests have people wondering if he ranks as a truly great leader.
This morning it was reported that two Georgia players were recently arrested on reckless driving charges. Offensive lineman Bo Hughley and linebacker Smael Mondon both face charges relating to the offense.
These two arrests are hardly the first time that Georgia’s players have gotten into trouble with the law over driving-related offenses. Last year two members of the Georgia football team lost their lives in an automobile crash that investigators said was the result of a number of factors including racing, reckless driving, speeding and even alcohol impairement.
As a result, college football fans have started really going after Smart and his leadership for not being able to get the message through to his players.
“Georgia OL Bo Hughley arrested for reckless driving involving a single-car accident. Georgia LB Smael Mondon arrested for racing & reckless driving. I’ve tried to be objective about each incident but whatever Kirby Smart & staff are doing is clearly not working with these guys,” one user wrote.
“Georgia back at it. They don’t care about what happened to their fallen teammate over this exact thing. Very poor leadership of men outside of Football by Kirby Smart. Anyone sending their son to play there cleary doesn’t care about character building of their kid. Embarrassing,” wrote another.
“The culture around reckless driving in the UGA locker room is an absolute failure by Kirby Smart,” a third declared.
Do you think this issue falls on Smart?
