Another week, another high stakes SEC showdown. Georgia remains #5 in the AP poll and will take on #1 Texas this Saturday.
As one would expect for a matchup of top five teams, College Gameday will be in the house in Austin.
This one is going to be BIG

The Longhorns have opened as a 3.5 point favorite over the Bulldogs, which probably feels generous to those of us who watched both teams last Saturday, Personally I think the Longhorns are at least a touchdown better than the ‘Dawgs, especially in Darrell K. Royal.
For their part, our SB Nation colleagues at Burnt Orange Nation are pretty confident after blowing out #18 Oklahoma 34-3 despite what BON considered a “C+ effort” on offense. Quinn Ewers indeed had a slow start to the day, with a series of incompletions and an interception on the Horns’ first offensive possession. I’m a little concerned however that after that he looked a lot better, and seems to have knocked the rust off just in time to face the Red and Black.
In the recruiting front, perhaps the top uncommitted prospect on the Bulldog recruiting board, Pooler defensive tackle Elijah Griffin, will announce his college decision on Friday.
I will be announcing my commitment on FRIDAY OCTOBER 18th at 1:20pm at Savannah Christian Preparatory School! Eckburg Gym!! #raidernation ☠️ ☠️
Anyone is welcome!! @SCPSAthletics @ChadSimmons_ @RivalsFriedman @RustyMansell_ @bobiewoodward— Elijah Griffin (@ElijahGriffin95) October 13, 2024
Griffin is the nation’s #1 defensive tackle and the top later in the state of Georgia according to 247Sports. No one single prospect is a can’t miss recruit. But Griffin is one it would certainly sting for the Dawgs to miss on. His other finalists are USC and Miami, two schools which have both recruited Georgia generally and the Coastal Empire specifically pretty well in recent years. That being said, Griffin announced his plan to commit this week after another visit to Athens for the Mississippi State game.
In recruiting, I still find that your best bet is to follow the visits. In addition to the Mississippi State game, Griffin took in the Clemson game in Atlanta and has been to Athens multiple times this season. The Bulldogs actually were the first school to offer him, back in September 2020, when he was an 8th grader.
Blessed to receive my first offer from The University of Georgia #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/Y2xOm9JGZP

They grow up so fast, right?
We’ll be back with more Bulldog news and notes later. Until then….
