The Georgia Bulldogs have a variety of rivalries which vary in terms of history, intensity and competitiveness.
But for me personally this is the one that tops them all. It’s time for the hatiest of hate weeks, as the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Sunshine State Sewer Lizards.
The Red and Black are a 16.5 point favorite over the Gators, though it sounds like there’s a lot of money taking Florida and the points. Given the Bulldogs’ struggles with covering the spread this season, that makes a lot of sense.
Down in the Swampland, the Gainesville Sun is pumping some impressive sunshine, implying that the Orange and Blue are a whole new football team coming out of the bye week. Whatever gets you to kickoff I guess. This Florida team may not be quite as awful as they were in week one against Miami, and may have won three out of four, but make no mistake, they’re still no lock to make a bowl. I do however like the idea of the Gators having a little bit of hope before having their dreams crushed. It’s no fun when they have no expectations.
If you’re looking for something to worry about from the Losin’ Lizards, I think one possibility might be freshman quarterback DJ Lagway’s continuing development. That includes the fact that Lagway is now the nation’s most accurate quarterback on throws beyond 20 yards. Because stopping those throws isn’t something that we’re worried about with regard to the Bulldog secondary, right? Right?
On the recruiting front, Coach Smart picked up a big commitment over the weekend when Norcross linebacker Anthony Kruah flipped his pledge from North Carolina to the Dawgs. A three star recruit per 247Sports, Kruah has been a terror for the Blue Devils this year, scoring touchdowns rushing, receiving and on an interception return. The 6’2, 215 pounder also counted offers from Auburn, Boston College and Michigan. While he’s only currently ranked the #37 linebacker in the nation, I expect his stock to rise substantially due to the eye-popping performance he’s put up in a breakout senior season. We’ll be back with more Cocktail Party news and notes shortly. Until then…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
