George is headed to Tuscaloosa to face the most physical, deep football team. The Bulldogs have seen this season. It sounds like Kirby Smart team may do so with some of the key parts back that they were missing against the Kentucky Wildcats.
The most pressing injury news of course surrounds linebacker Mykel Williams, who’s been out since the Clemson opener. Today Kirby said that he is “hopeful” that William will be back after another good week of rehab, but conceded that he has not practiced to this point.
Warren Brinson missed the Kentucky game after suffering an ankle injury against Tennessee Tech. However, it sounds like he practiced at the tail end of the week and should probably be expected in the lineup against the Crimson Tide.
Warren Brinson missed the Kentucky game after suffering an ankle injury and missing the last two games. However, it sounds like he practiced at the tail end of the bye week and should probably be expected in the lineup against the Crimson Tide.
Brinson’s line mate Jordan Hall continues to rehab his injury, but coach likewise sounded fairly confident that he’ll see the field this weekend as well.
Xzavier McLeod returned from injury for the Kentucky game, getting two assisted tackles and getting in on a tackle for loss in his first action of the season. Having a full complement of defensive linemen healthy won’t be sufficient to secure victory over the Tide. But it’s probably a necessary precondition.
Offensively the Red and Black will be without starting guard Tate Ratledge, who’s recovering from TightRope surgery on a high ankle sprain and a sprained knee that didn’t require surgical intervention. Micah Morris moved into Ratledge’s spot during the Kentucky game and will likely man that spot Saturday. But Coach Searels also has the option of sliding Dylan Fairchild over from left guard.
Carson Beck reportedly suffered an AC joint sprain of his non-throwing shoulder, but Beck and Coach Smart have both said Beck is fine and hasn’t missed any practice. If anything, I’d be a little concerned about whether the injury will keep Beck from taking off on the ground and using his legs on Saturday, as well as whether he’s affected if he takes hits from that attacking Kane Wommack defense.
Roderick Robinson remains out following toe surgery and is unlikely to play against the Tide.
Georgia will provide an additional update on its injury situation on Wednesday night when it releases its official league-mandated availability report through the SEC. The availability report will then be published daily, with a final report released 90 minutes prior to kickoff Saturday evening. Until later….
