You don’t just stroll into Mercedes-Benz Stadium and stymie the Fightin’ Dabos of Clemson University without a total team effort. But even when everyone pulls together, a few intrepid Bulldogs are guaranteed to distinguish themselves. These are your MVDs, the Most Valuable ‘Dawgs from Georgia’s 34-3 victory over Clemson.
Offense: Carson Beck. It was another effective performance for Beck, who hit 23 of 33 passes for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air while adding 19 yards on the ground. Beck hit nine different receivers and didn’t come close to turning the ball over in one of the most polished and commanding performances of his career thus far.
Defense: Jalon Walker. The entire Bulldog defense put I a whale of a performance Saturday, giving up only 3 points and 188 yards of total offense. But Walker in particular found a new gear as the game wore on, finishing with a team-leading 6 tackles, 3 of them solo stops, along with 1.5 sacks. With Mykel Williams out for the time being with a sprained ankle, Walker will be a critical component of the pass rush going forward.
Special Teams: Peyton Woodring. Woodring’s two first half field goals (including a career long 55 yarder) gave Georgia what turned out to be all the points they needed to win this one. This time last year we were fretting about how many games a true freshman placekicker might cost the Red and Black. It now feels appropriate to wonder how many he might help win over the next few years.
Until later…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
