Even when the result is a disappointing season-ending loss some Bulldogs always seem to stand out above the crowd. They are your MVDs, the Most Valuable ‘Dawgs from Georgia’s 23-10 loss to Notre Dame.
Offense: Gunner Stockton. With the exception of one bad fumble and some presnap situations when he should have gotten the offense out of bad situations (such as the run blitz that resulted in the Etienne fumble), Stockton played about as well as could be expected. He finished 20 of 32 for 234 yards with a touchdown, and had Dillon Bell drop what would have been another long score. He had no interceptions, and generally held onto the ball despite being sacked 4 times and hurried several more. It wasn’t a title-winning performance, but it showed enough that I believe he could be a title winning QB.
Defense: Smael Mondon. Mondon was all over the field tonight, tallying 9 tackles and a sack. It was a nice finale to a season that saw him fight through injury to lead a Bulldog defense that desperately needed leadership.
Special teams: Drew Miller. The freshman punter’s 4 kicks for 159 yards weren’t jaw-dropping. None pinned the Irish deep or even landed inside the 20. But after being run into and spun around the first two times he kicked the ball Miller continued to come back for more. He didn’t mishandle any snaps and was at least solid all night long. On one of the worst night’s a Bulldog special teams unit has had in awhile, solid was as good as it gets.
