Collin Gill chose his third school of the offseason.
After redshirting during his freshman year at Oregon, Gill entered the transfer portal on April 30. Shortly after, the defensive back committed to Temple.
However, Gill won’t play for the Owls in 2024. He announced his commitment to Georgia on Thursday.
The 6-foot, 215-pounder joined Oregon as a three-star recruit last year. Gill left Eugene before getting to play for Dan Lanning’s program.
After Oregon’s spring game, Gill jumped to Temple. The Washington, D.C. native has spent time at safety during camp after playing cornerback in high school.
Gill was set to play for the Owls, who went 3-9 in each of the last three seasons. He’ll instead compete for an opportunity on a perennial national title contender.
Georgia allowed just 15.6 points and 175.4 passing yards per game last year. Yet an SEC Championship Game loss to Alabama thwarted the team’s threepeat chase.
Defensive backs Kamari Lassiter, Javon Bullard, and Tykee Smith were among the eight Bulldogs drafted in April. Cornerbacks Nyland Green and A.J. Harris also transferred in January, leaving Kirby Smart to rebuild the secondary around Malaki Starks.
Per Dawgs247’s Kipp Adams, Smart said the unit has “a long way to go” before challenging his defensive backs to up their aggressiveness
“I don’t know if I’ve seen them attack it. I want to see them attack the ball better,” Smart said. “We gave up a lot of plays in the spring. What I call 50-50 balls, we didn’t get a lot of them out.”
