After a brief rest your Georgia Bulldogs and the staff here at Dawg Sports are back in action and turning our collective focus to this week’s Sugar Bowl matchup with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
One big factor that’s already emerging? Running back depth. Both teams want, nay, need to run the ball to win this matchup of elite defenses. For its part Georgia will yet again be without tailbacks Roderick Robinson and Branson Robinson, who each suffered recent injury setbacks in practice.
Really at this point there’s not much else to say. Both Robinsons would have been a big help at more than one juncture this season, and certainly would have helped against the Irish. But the Bulldogs will roll with a rotation of Trevor Etienne, Cash Jones, and Nate Frazier. That rotation was pretty effective against Texas, which had just as formidable a front seven as the boys from South Bend.
The Bulldog defense will have its hands full with Notre Dame’s leading rusher Jeremiyah Love, who shook off a knee injury and the flu to rush for 108 yards against Indiana. To be fair, 98 of those came on one carry. But make no mistake, Love is a formidable back, and an impressive young man.
One commentator who thinks the Red and Black are a rightful favorite? Urban Meyer. The former Florida and Ohio State head coach thinks the Bulldogs win and cover the razor thin 1.5 point spread.
There has to be a German word for when you hope someone you deeply despise is 100% right. I’m going to go find out what that word is and will report back. Until then…
