Georgia men’s basketball program got a legacy recruit this week.
RJ Godfrey, the son of former Georgia linebacker Randall Godfrey, committed to Georgia after entering the transfer portal.
He shared the news via his Instagram.
Godfrey spent two seasons at Clemson before transferring to Georgia. During the 2022-23 season, he averaged 3.2 points and 2.1. rebounds per game.
He then followed that up by averaging 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game this season. He also shot 59.4% from the floor.
Godfrey is a former three-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class and was the seventh-best recruit in his home state (Georgia), per 247Sports composite rankings. He was also the No. 157 overall recruit, regardless of position.
He’ll join a Georgia men’s basketball program that has been down in recent seasons. Yes, the Bulldogs finished this past season with 20 wins but they still haven’t made the NCAA Tournament since the 2014-15 season.
They’ve only played the tournament twice since the 2010-11. The 2024-25 season will be the third under head coach Michael White after he took over for Tom Crean.
