The New York Jets are going all-in on the 2024 season, so their roster choices in these final days before the regular season is absolutely critical. One new signing they’ve made is a former first-round pick hoping for a fresh start.
According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the New York Jets are adding former Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine to their practice squad. Cine was the No. 32 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft following a title-winning season at Georgia.
Unfortunately, the injury bug has hit Cine hard since he entered the NFL. He was limited to just three games as a rookie after suffering a compound fracture in his leg in 2022, and then was limited to only seven games in 2023.
Cine has only one tackle in his NFL career thus far.
“The #Jets are signing former #Vikings S Lewis Cine to their practice squad, source says. The former first-round pick gets a fresh start,” Garafolo wrote.

It’s a low-risk move for the Jets, who already have a top-five passing defense but could use some insurance at safety for the coming season.
The Jets have done a good job at getting the most out of their defensive backs, from Sauce Gardner winning back-to-back All-Pro nods to D.J. Reed and Michael Carter emerging as two of the best No. 2 and No. 3 options at cornerback in the league.
But if they can’t get the offense humming under Aaron Rodgers, no amount of defensive prowess will save them from a bad season.
