First, an update to last week’s Victory Post:
I was able to find the Facebook page of our elderly friend’s wife, Ms. Barbara, and I messaged her to check on him. Despite the fact that we are not Facebook friends, she did see my message, and verified that he did indeed make it home safely.
Some of you may remember that my eldest child matriculated at the North Avenue Trade School. Despite that, we still love her, as did Podunk. We did not attend the COFH game in 2021, because it was downtown, but I took her to Athens in 2022, she returned the favor last year, and the plan WAS for her to join me again this year. However, due to the cold and some annoying but ultimately non-contagious illness, she decided to skip this year’s event.
That left me with a conundrum. Mr. Squillian insists that I have a buddy for every game. He was willing to attend, but I prefer for him to stay home & watch from the couch. But who is available and willing to attend on short notice?
I started texting. Some people never responded. Several said they would love to go, but were unavailable. One friend just outright didn’t want to brave the cold.
But I finally found a former student who was in town, available and willing to go. We bundled up and headed out.
Friends, last week, on our way home, I stopped at the new BP station in Bogart (right across from the RaceTrac) to use the restroom. I have a general policy to patronize any establishment that allows ladies to use a clean restroom as the need may arise. So, we took a look at the merchandise available there. They had quite a bit of Bulldogs items to choose from, but what caught my eye was billed as a “wearable blanket” – bright Georgia red with the Power G on the front and sherpa-lined. Now I don’t know if sherpas can be sheared (a la sheep) or if they must be skinned (like the nearly extinct naugas of the 70s), but the fluff that comes from them is very soft and quite warm. I’ve seen a similar (or identical) item online, but seeing it in person made the decision to spend $40 a lot easier, especially since the forecast for last night was decidedly chillier than I usually like to be. Having worn it for the entire 8 overtimes, I now want a matching pair of pants! The ONLY parts of me that were cold by the end of regulation were my toes and my nose.
In case you were wondering, I finally arrived home around 2:30AM, and my young friend made it to her house about 45 minutes after that. I have no voice left, but that game was definitely one of the most harrowing, thrilling games I have ever seen!
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 122nd game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 104-18 record and a 0.8524 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred fourth win overall in the twelfth game of the 2024 season against the Yellow Jackets of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 122nd game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs loss to the Bugs in the eleventh game of the 1974 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 82-36-5 and 0.6926 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 93-29 (0.7623) after a win over the Nerds in the twelfth game of the 2009 season.
One hundred and twenty two games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is ten games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 21 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
