
Georgia’s home opener, of course, is Saturday when the Dawgs entertain Tennessee Tech.
Some fans on campus will mark this as one of many home openers to have seen Between The Hedges. For others, it could be their first time in Sanford Stadium or even, perhaps, their young Dawg fan’s first time seeing the Dawgs tee it up live and in person.
All of this begs the question – what was your favorite Georgia home opener?
Could it have been 1983 when a prime time audience saw the Dawgs outduel UCLA and quarterback Rick Neuheisel?
Season-opening wins don’t get much better for Georgia than in 1965, when it upset Alabama 18-17.
If you were around for the Mark Richt era, the 2002 thriller over Clemson resonates…as does the 2005 beatdown of an upstart Boise State team.
The 2016 opener against Northwestern State was Kirby’s first home game as UGA head coach, and we’ll leave it at that.
Personally speaking, the 1989 opener against Baylor is significant for one reason – that it was yours truly’s first Georgia game to see live.
In 1980, Texas A&M came to town a week after the road win at Tennessee. It all turned out to be a full-on wave of Herschel-Mania.
