Walker named Butkus Award winner
Junior Linebacker Jalon Walker has been named the nation’s best linebacker, becoming the third Georgia Bulldog to win the Butkus Award since 2017, joining Roquan Smith and Nakobe Dean. Walker currently has 58 total tackles and 6.5 sacks on the season, embracing his role as a leader for the Dawgs on and off the field. Well deserved Jalon!

Belichick is named Head Coach at UNC
In perhaps the most surprising turn of events. Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick has signed a 3-year $30 million deal to become the new head coach at the University of North Carolina. Belichick won 333 games as an NFL head coach, including playoffs. He is second on the all-time wins list behind Don Shula, while he has also won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. Since he departed from New England after the 2023 season, Belichick has stayed in the spotlight, mostly doing media work as he has been heavily featured on the Pat McAfee show. On the Pat McAfee show, Belichick expressed his interest in college coaching and exactly how he’d run things. Stating “If I was in a College program, it would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL”.
“IF I was in a College program it would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL..
It would be a professional program at the College level..
I don’t have any doubt that the players would be ready for the NFL” ~ Bill Belichick #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/JyMDtzs2yR

Belichick allegedly handed UNC a 400-page “organizational bible” that included the program’s structure, payment plans, staffing choices, and more. With all that being said, this is one of the more surprising hires in the history of College Football, as Belichick has never held an official college coaching position in his 50 years of coaching. It will be interesting to see how Belichick’s tenure turns out with the tar-heels, with there being a good chance it goes well in this new age of NIL and player contracts, as we could also see Belichick serve in a “GM” role for the program as well.
Ohio Lawmaker looks to make Flag-Planting a felony
Yep, you read that right. Following the brawl after the Michigan-Ohio State game, where we saw Michigan players attempt to plant their flag right in the middle of Ohio Stadium, leading to total chaos on the field and Michigan players getting maced. Ohio State representative Josh Williams has introduced the O.H.I.O. Sportsmanship Act. The bill would make it a felony to plant a flag at the center of Ohio Stadium, talk about soft. Maybe opposing teams could plant their flag in the Buckeyes’ endzones instead?? Just a thought.
That’s all for this Thursday’s edition of ‘Dawg Bites. As always, Go Dawgs!!!
