Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! Not just any Tuesday, but Tuesday of SEC Championship week. Not gonna lie, just a few weeks ago I didn’t think we’d be here. I was actually looking forward to having a week off of angst, and wondering what it would be like to play a December game in Happy Valley. Instead, Georgia has a chance to earn a top four seed and earn the much needed time off for our injured and dinged up Bulldogs.
Clean Old-Fashioned Hate has come and gone, and no landscaping was harmed, no fines levied by the conference, and no apologies issued. We can’t say the same for other rivalries. You do you.
Hosting Georgia Tech Friday was… something. There are a lot of ways to look at the game, and the intrepid folks at the Red & Black attempted an objective grading of position groups. I don’t know if I remember it that way, but most of the game is a blur in my wee little brain. All I know is We Run This State.
In breaking news, Brent Key thinks the refs missed a targeting flag on a pivotal defensive play by the Bulldogs. I’m not sure I would emulate Ryan Day at this stage, Coach. It hasn’t worked out well.
As we turn our attention to the post-season House of Horrors they call Mercedes-Benz, Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart held his weekly Monday press conference. His choice of hoodie is… something. And while he doesn’t believe much has changed in terms of challenges facing Texas, he also thinks the first whole-steer butchering has no bearing on Saturday afternoon’s contest. He acknowledged the absence of Christian Miller and the failings on 3rd down defense. He didn’t spell it, but he described Arch Manning as “thicc”. Also, “stats are for guys that look at stats”.
Texas University will be the home team Saturday (I’m guessing based on the better record), and as such have the choice of what uniforms to wear. Apparently there is debate on what they are called, but the road whites has been announced. I’m of the belief that the less orange the better, but I also admit the all-white unis are pretty tight. It doesn’t compare to silver britches, but it is also one of the cleanest looks in college football.
The penultimate College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed tonight. This version will be mostly interesting for how they treat Clemson with a 3rd loss (how far outside the top 12), Ohio State losing to a barely .500 team, and Miami getting McCorded and Meeked out of the ACC Championship game. With 3 big conference championships coming up, and only 2-3 other games of consequence, tonight’s rankings will be interesting to see if any participants are on the precipice of getting bumped.
We’re not all pigskin at Dawg Sports, so I’m here to welcome you to the Georgia Bulldog Men’s Basketball bandwagon. The 7-1 Hoop Hounds play in the 2nd annual SEC/ACC Challenge, and will host… an ACC-adjacent Notre Dame. The game is at the Steg, 7:00 pm Wednesday. Just like football, clapclapclap.
It’s still Gameweek for Georgia Bulldog football folks, and that is enough to be thankful for. And be sure to stop by your butcher for all those prime cuts of beef. As always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
