Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! You probably couldn’t wait to wake up to this historic day, knowing the high stakes and impactful outcomes from tonight’s big reveal. All the intense anticipation and public scrutiny, the influence of public opinion and the media, all determined by a mix of analytical and subjective decision criteria. Yep, you guessed it…
The first College Playoff rankings are released tonight.
What? Is there something else happening today? Another significant news event to draw your eyeballs and clicks? Huh. Wasn’t aware.
You’d think all would be well in Bulldog Nation after capturing the 4th straight WLOCP. But if you’re one of the select few taking a critical eye to Georgia quarterback play, I’ll give you some additional ammunition. Or maybe restating what has been said before. Anyway, it’s the weekly position group grading report by the intrepid reporters at the Red & Black.
In a bit of a rarity this season, compared to the past 3, a Georgia Bulldog received an SEC defensive weekly award. Chaz Chambliss had 2 timely sacks Saturday against UF, and was in on another TFL.
Another item released is the gametime for next week’s hosting of the Volunteers. We have our night game, folks. Get ready to Light Up Sanford.
Coach Kirby Smart, he of the nepotism, hiring nothing but old teammates and friends, and habitual refusal to consider change once he names a starting quarterback no matter the strong opinions voiced by extremely opinionated fans, held his weekly pre-game press conference. There was a lot of praise for the makeup of Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin’s attacking style, and having to practice hard and fast in the face of yet another tough SEC road trip.
The injury report was virtually non-existent. Etienne seems to be back out with the team, the training staff feels positive, but he will be dealing with the rib injury. Coach Smart was fairly mum on Smael Mondon, Roderick Robinson, and Anthony Evans, just saying that they’re working hard on getting back to the field. And he’s hopeful Jordan Hall can join the rotation on the defensive front lines.
There may have been some demons exorcised Saturday night in Jacksonville, at least some first have demons exorcised in the second half during the comeback. Speaking of demons (the kind playing for Warner Robins HS), Kirby Smart sees one with the commitment of 2025 defensive back Rasean Dinkins. The 5’10” safety plays bigger than his frame, but another inch and 20 lbs of muscle would turn this 4 star into a beast, exactly the type Georgia likes in the safety and star position.
So we will know the direction of… the Georgia season after tonight. Will we have to win out and win more convincingly to get into the playoffs? Or will the committee value the Power G on the helmet enough to give us a little breathing space? An important crossroads for sure. Hopefully we don’t have to sell our souls to get to our desired outcome.
Have yourself a day, be kind to one another, think about throwing a couple of sawbucks at the folks in Oklahoma, Florida, or western North Carolina who have suffered of late. Or your charity of choice. It’s not a bad day to do something nice for others. And remember that you’re not deciding on replacing James Franklin or Billy Napier or Hugh Freeze, or even Mike Gundy. That’s a good thing. And as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
