Welcome to Monday, Bulldog fans! But not just any Monday, but the first in over 100 years that James Earl Carter has not graced humanity with his living being.
President Carter passed away Sunday at the age of 100, having held brain cancer at bay for almost a decade. Historians may quibble about his policies, but there is no denying his impact as a human being dedicating his life to serving and helping other human beings – and achieving meaningful results. I hang your picture proudly in my home office, good sir, kindly autographed to me personally.
Now onto news and notes of the Bulldog variety:
Another acquaintance we won’t forget is Carson Beck. You’ve seen the news that the 5th year senior from Jacksonville has declared for the NFL draft, and that he desires to be around the Georgia program during the playoff run. We’ll take a cup of kindness for you, Carson.
We wont’ forget Brock Bowers, who set the NFL rookie season reception record of 108 catches. With a game left to play. LSU, Alabama, Ohio State and others have flooded the first round of the NFL draft with receivers, but a Bulldog shall lead them.
We won’t forget Ladd McConkey, who set the Chargers single season record in receptions and receiving yards. With a game left to play. And this is a franchise with pass happy offenses led by the likes of Dan Fouts and Philip Rivers.
We won’t forget the Georgia men’s basketball early season success. Mike White has his Hoop Hounds at 12-1 as they defeated SC State yesterday at the Steg. This wasn’t the most taxing of non-conference schedules, but it was sprinkled with NCAA tournament teams, and a lone loss against highly ranked Marquette is a great sign. There is no chance to rest, for Georgia starts January with a very daunting SEC slate against a handful of top 20 conference teams. And it won’t let up – a .500 record may well get UGA into the big dance.
A 27 consecutive bowl game appearance record, the nation’s longest streak. Plus having won the last 7 bowl games. The dog doesn’t bite me, the bee didn’t sting the Commodores, but when I’m feeling sad, these are some of my favorite things. Except a lot of these appearances weren’t “bowl games” but technically playoff games. All I know is New Year’s Day, in New Orleans, at the Sugar Bowl, against an independent team. The technicalities can kiss my grits.
We’ll be along with more Sugar Bowl and CFP Playoff coverage in leadup to Wednesday night’s tilt against the Irish. Until then, enjoy your day, and as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
