Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog Fans! Autumn is settling in, the supply chain for bourbon distribution appears to be functioning smoothly, and Georgia has a chance to do something special. Plus, we’re desperate. And desperate teams start to push back.
But don’t push back too much. And after hearing from the big man himself, I expect that’s tHe LaSt TiMe ThIs WiLl EvEr Be MeNtIoNeD bY a MeDiA oUtLeT aGaIn EvEr.
Coach Kirby Smart had other things to say, and other questions to ask at his weekly press conference.
Coach Smart was effusive in his praise of Texas as one would expect. He was more cautious in his comments about the UGA pass rush, and hopes to affect the opposing QB more. He gave us the expected disappointing news about RB Branson Robinson, who won’t make the trip to Austin but does have a bye week immediately after to heal up. It looks as if Mykel Williams is continuing to improve, continuing to practice, and we should see more of him at Darrel K. Royal.
And if you thought Kirby was a master at coach-speak, check out the section on how he views his own sideline composure. The deflection in the answer was elite.
For the final word on Saturday night’s meh taste in the mouth, we’ll take one last look at how the Bulldogs graded out. From the intrepid folks at the Red & Black, here is their report card for the Mississippi State game. I was honestly expecting different grades, but their reasoning is both measured and sound.
One wonders why the 2024 ‘Dawgs seem less impressive than previous seasons. Macondawg did a tremendous job breaking down the new normal. And DawgNation’s Mike Griffith has a decent piece on some specifics on what is different this year.
I don’t remember the last time Georgia was an underdog like they are this week, even though I’ve questioned many betting lines over the years. In fact I’ve warned several acquaintances here in ACC country to always take the points when they ask me for my opinion. But the respect to the team I root for is a pleasant burden to bear, even if I neither gain nor lose money because of it.
If you have two quarterbacks, you actually don’t have one. And you lose at lot of games at Florida. Concerning the news of Graham Mertz’s injury, I don’t know if this will help Billy Napier, but it is unfortunate for the young man who definitely played his heart out.
Thanks for checking in with us, even if you’re just hear to bash play-calling or looking for someplace to vent about poor pass coverage. We appreciate the visit, hope you’ll stick around, and look to commiserate about our chances this weekend in the Lone Star State. And as always…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
