Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans!
When the Classic City Canines trek northward to Lexington later this week, they won’t have the ESPN College GameDay convoy following them. The conventionalApparently it was pretty much finalized that the Kentuckians would take care of the underdog Poultry this past Saturday, thus setting up an early season conference battle between undefeated UK and #1 UGA – and a great excuse to televise Pat McAfee mixing Pappy with Diet 7up. And that is where GameDay was locked into setting up this weekend. That is, until SCjr. decided they had a defensive line and UK acknowledged and acquiesced. So the boys from Bristol changed course figuratively and literally.
After perfect conditions in Mercedes-Benz the first week, and a perfect early-fall day in Athens last week, the Bulldogs will leave the Empire State of the South for likely inclement weather. Rain, possibly storms, are predicted for central Kentucky at gametime Saturday night. Don’t worry, the Georgia coaching staff has a plan for that.
Coach Smart’s weekly presser didn’t really reveal too much else. As macondawg reported yesterday, the injury report is pleasantly light and only Mykel Williams has serious questions of being able to play. He kept it typically close to the vest, was complimentary of the opposing coach, team, and atmosphere, and heaped just enough praise on former ‘Dawgs Brock Vandagriff and Jamon “Pop” Dumas-Johnson.
It is report card time again, boys and girls. The intrepid reporters at the Red and Black have graded the Georgia position groups in their performance against Tennessee Tech. Considering the score, the shortened final quarter, the overmatched nature of the rosters, you can probably guess this was a GPA-friendly week. I think I’d quibble with one or two – such as QB. We’re not on opposite ends, but my eye was a bit more critical.
There were no Bulldogs awarded as SEC football players of the week. Considering our opponent, and then the other matchups, it isn’t a surprise that Texas, Tennessee, and South Carolina (!!) took home the hardware. There was an oversight in my opinion: if your specialist has but a single play, and executes it perfectly, it should be rewarded. Bulldog punter Brett Thorson punted only once, late in the game, and kicked a 55 yarder that was fair caught at the Tennessee Tech 10 yard line.
That should get your day started. Let us know in the comments if hear anything newsworthy, or if Kirby Smart’s eventual official conference injury report gets released. I’ve the over on 75.5 players with “questionable” status. But whatever it says…
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
