In a one-off event, the Georgia-Georgia Tech game will move to a neutral site in 2025 when Georgia Tech gives up the cozy confines of Boddy Dodd Stadium, aka Mark Richt Field, to face Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Thankfully, Georgia loses no home game in this deal, only a trip to The Flats. The Jackets are in a current contract to host one home game per year at The Benz. This year, for example, Notre Dame will play Tech at Mercedes-Benz.
The Yellow Jackets can’t be faulted in at least one sense here, as it’ll give them a $10 million guarantee. Like many life situations, this one is easily explained by Spaceballs.
The GTAA is not as flowing with cash as other athletic departments. You can’t fault them for chasing greenbacks. But it’s a pursuit that Georgia should never do. Clean Old Fashioned Hate is one of UGA’s most cherished rivalries, and it’s a game that should be contested on-campus, not at a sterilized NFL stadium.
Remember in “O Brother Where Art Thou” when Pappy O’Daniel bemoans his campaign’s need for a shot in the arm in the face of Homer Stokes’ campaign? It’s hard not to feel the same about what a year or two ago you felt was a high standard for Georgia’s defense – play in the secondary.
Blown coverages, missed tackles, an absence of situational awareness with the ball in the air…you name it, and it’s been bad most of this season.
Whatever ails it all, a quick fix is needed urgently.
Tuesday is usually the most in a large chunk that Kirby Smart will say during a game week, and this week is no exception. Smart touched on topics such as how similar Quinn Ewers and Carson Beck are, practice this week being “good and not great,” the challenges faced by a freshman defensive back to get playing time and more.
Here’s to hoping the UGA Football Equipment truck has a fiddle in the band headed west…
Go Dawgs!
