Oh yes. Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate Week.
Though at times, it’s questionable how ‘clean’ the rivalry even is between Georgia and the North Avenue Trade School.
While feelings about who Georgia’s biggest rival may be weighted by where you live as a fan as it relates to neighboring states, this Bulldog will always argue that the biggest rival is Georgia Tech.
Yes, Ray Goff famously said that “if you don’t think that Tech is Georgia’s biggest rival, just lose to them once and you’ll find out.” But it goes deeper than that.
Why is Tech the biggest rival?
Here are just a few reasons.
Ask any fan who was around from the miserable years of 1998 to 2000. Georgia Tech obsesses over Georgia. UGA should consistently beat Tech in football. When it does not, GT fans are unbearable. Tech lives in Georgia’s shadow, and when it has success against Georgia, their fans that are beaten down by Georgia’s success gloat and gloat heavily. At one recent senior day, Tech players on multiple times said their favorite memory as a player was beating Georgia. If nothing else, a Tech win makes Georgia fans more miserable than losing to any other rival.
Georgia Tech’s marching band once covered up a Georgia midfield with its own banner. As the late, great Lewis Grizzard said, “does Tech’s T stand for tacky?”
One result of losing to Tech? Budding engineers allegedly deface government property in Athens.
Eric Zeier’s final home game ended by way of a cheap shot by the Yellow Jackets defense.
30 years ago today on Black Friday of 1994, #Georgia freshman QB Mike Bobo relieves injured Eric Zeier leading by only 7 in the 2Q against Tech.
The last time UGA played a non-Saturday game in Athens, Bobo completes 13 of 16 for 206 yards and a TD in a 48-10 win. @ugasportscom pic.twitter.com/Y9o3sfExgf

In the Georgia-Georgia Tech game after Larry Munson’s passing, a segment of Yellow Jacket fans booed during a tribute being offered to Munson.
Georgia Tech’s response to being beaten badly in 1993? Starting a fight.
November 25, 1993: Up 38-10 at Georgia Tech with under 2 minutes left, UGA starting QB Eric Zeier throws a touchdown on 4th down sparking a brawl.
UGA Coach Ray Goff was stiff arming and throwing down his own players.

As Loran Smith notes, Theron Sapp is a Bulldog Great for mainly one reason – breaking the drought against Georgia Tech.
As much as Georgia fans would love to see Colbie Young line up at receiver on Friday, it looks like for now he’s just getting work in at practice.
So….Texas or Texas A&M in Atlanta. One take from Dawg Nation says Georgia should say Horns Up.
Go Dawgs!
