As Nick Saban surmised on Saturday morning, getting players into your program, even if its aside from standard recruiting tactics, is meaningless unless they are the right ones.
Most coaches…ok, unless their name starts with Dabo, know that using the portal to help build a roster is a part of the current landscape. Georgia’s strategy there is not so much to load up left and right on transfers, but to seek someone to fill a need.
You can dislike the transfer portal all you want, but it’s hard to argue with the way that Kirby Smart and his staff have adjusted to it.
Kirby Smart did not directly state on Tuesday whether or not Joenel Aguero and Jordan Hall will play on Saturday against Tennessee Tech. But if you read the tea leaves, it’d indicate that seeing both on the field should be the expectation. Saturday is not just a game to rest guys who got banged up against Tennessee, but also a chance to get those bouncing back from injuries time to ease back in.
Saturday may not be a compelling matchup, but this is one of the purposes that it serves ahead of the next week at Kentucky.
Speaking of Tuesday’s press conference, here’s all that Smart had to say.
Anyone who’s been around the media side of covering UGA has been lucky. That’s because they’ve dealt with either Dan Magill or Claude Felton, sometimes both. The word, ‘legend’ is tossed around a lot, but it fits both of them well, though neither would ever want the attention.
Go Dawgs!
