Somehow, you knew weeks like this would come eventually.
When Kirby Smart came to Athens, the expectation was for Alabama results. At the same time, other residual things would come with the hoisting of trophies.
That day has come, as the gang over at the Waitin’ Since Last Saturday Podcast foretold, that Georgia would lose an SEC road game and result in the field being stormed.
As glorious as a back-to-back title run was, it has raised expectations. Like Alabama, there’s a segment of Georgia fans that do not take not meeting those hopes well, and frankly paint the fan base in a terrible light.
Being upset about losing? That’s great. If nobody was upset about losing, it’d be hard to find players and coaches that would want to be in Athens. It means that people are invested and care a lot about it.
In today’s social media landscape, it’s easy, maybe too easy, to react based on quick clips of video and sound bytes.
In the midst of all going on during the final minutes on Saturday in Oxford, Carson Beck had the audacity for a milli-second or two to have a smile on his face.
In the moment, it looked bad. Context, however, matters.
For all those freaking out about Carson Beck smiling on the sideline the other night, here is a message from his mom about the situation.
Jaden Rashada, Georgia’s backup QB, was being a good teammate and hyping up his spirits. R

But the blowback from the loss to Ole Miss didn’t end, as seen from Jake Pope’s post-game meeting with some long-time friends he was surprised to see.
Once again, the reaction was not…great. And none other than Kirby Smart helped make it worse. Coach Smart is to be commended for a mea culpa since then, but a player being called ‘an idiot’ is free negative recruiting fodder for anyone recruiting against Georgia.
Sometimes, taking a step back to see the big picture is key, even amid a landscape where quick hot takes rule the day.
For various reasons, Georgia’s offense is not what it has been. That’s not conjecture, it’s a fact, and the Banner-Herald takes a numbers-look at the why.
The Tennessee game just got bigger from a recruiting angle with the news that Julian Lewis, a USC commit, will now be in attendance on Saturday night. Regardless of any conclusion drawn of whether or not this signals a desire for more of a mobile signal-caller to be gained to UGA’s QB room, the fact that one of the nation’s biggest names will be in Athens Saturday is nothing short of huge.
Dawg Nation tries to make some sense of Georgia’s woes in the offensive trenches.
Yes, the Hobnail Boot call is one of Larry Munson’s signature moments, but perhaps underrated is the call two years later in Knoxville, urging Sean Jones to “RUN!” as he took a scoop and score to the house, silencing Neyland Stadium.
Go Dawgs!
