NFL fans and media members are still stunned a day after the Atlanta Falcons picked Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick in the draft.
Nobody saw it coming since the team just signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year $180 million contract with $100 million guaranteed during free agency.
It has everyone joking that the Falcons will draft Spencer Rattler on Friday night to set up life after Penix Jr.
“Spencer Rattler would be a great second-round pick today for the Falcons. I’m just here for the chaos,” one tweet read.
“I’m hearing Spencer Rattler is very much in play for Atlanta with the 43rd overall pick tonight as the team plans for the post-Penix era,” another tweet read.
“If they took yet another QB I’d die of laughter,” another tweet read.
“Might as well for a just in case just in case. Since that’s logic we’re using,” another fan tweeted.
“Smart to have a backup plan to the backup plan,” another tweet read.
The Falcons won’t draft Rattler on Friday night but it’s at least fun to joke about.
Round two of the NFL Draft will start at 7 p.m. ET.
