The Atlanta Falcons have completed a third interview for their defensive coordinator vacancy. Lou Anarumo, the former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator, met with the team on Thursday afternoon.
Anarumo, 58, spent the last six seasons as Cincinnati’s defensive play-caller but was fired following the 2024 season. He began his NFL coaching career as a defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2012.
After six years in Miami, Anarumo took over as a defensive backs coach for the New York Giants in 2018. From there, it was on to Cincinnati where he coached from 2019-2024.
The Bengals defense finished 25th in the NFL last season in points allowed (26.5 per game) with 15 interceptions and 36 sacks. Anarumo’s best season came in 2022 when the team finished fifth in points allowed (20.1 per game).
The Falcons also interviewed Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and New York Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich for their defensive coordinator vacancy.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the team has scheduled an interview with former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilkes.
