The Atlanta Falcons have now spoken with seven coaches for their defensive coordinator vacancy, interviewing former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus on Saturday. The 54-year-old was fired midway through the 2024 season after compiling an overall record of 14-32.
Eberflus took over as Chicago’s head coach in 2022 following a three-year stint as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts. During his time with the Colts, Eberflus turned the NFL’s 30th-ranked defense into a top-10 unit in his first season.
Prior to joining the Colts in 2018, Eberlus spent seven years as the linebackers coach for the Dallas Cowboys (2011-2017), adding passing game coordinator to his title for the final two seasons.
Eberflus is one of the more experienced candidates that the Falcons have interviewed. The team also spoke with former head coach Steve Wilks and Steelers secondary coach Grady Brown on Friday.
