Falcons vs. Panthers: A look at the series history going into 2024 (Part 2)

The Falcons have a chance to sweep the season series for the first time since 2019.

The Falcons gear up for their 2024 regular season finale against a familiar division foe, and the one whom the Birds have the most success against. Atlanta currently leads the all time series over the Carolina Panthers 37-22.

Despite having such a drastic all-time lead, this has been a back and forth series over the past few seasons, as each team has split the season series in every year since 2019. The last time a team won consecutive matchups over the other was when the Falcons won five in a row between 2017 and 2019.

Due to their victory earlier this season, Atlanta now has a chance to finally break that seal and to sweep the Panthers for the first time in five years.

Last Meeting

The 3-2 Falcons were coming off of a massive victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football to claim first place in the NFC South, and they had their sights set on a third consecutive divisional victory against a struggling Panthers team that had turned to Andy Dalton and was sitting at 1-4.

It was a great start for Carolina, who went downfield on their third drive and scored a touchdown by way of Diontae Johnson, before the Falcons immediately answered with a touchdown drive themselves. Bijan Robinson scored that first one, and then Atlanta’s second one as well, before a Kirk Cousins connection with Drake London put them up 22-10.

The Panthers refused to go away, as Dalton connected with rookie Xavier Legette just before the half to bring it to within a five point game. This remained a one possession game into the fourth quarter and on a drive where Carolina was moving, AJ Terrell made the decisive play, undercutting a pass intended for Ian Thomas to hold that lead intact.

The following two drives featured nothing but run plays, along with one incompletion, as both Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier reached over 100 yards from scrimmage.
