It’s safe to say former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White isn’t a huge fan of Sean Payton.
On Wednesday afternoon, White tweeted that Payton’s time in the NFL has “passed him.” He also said that Drew Brees carried the Super Bowl-winning coach.
“Sean Peyton time has passed him by don’t matter who he gets in the draft Drew [Brees] carried that man and he ain’t done nothing since,” White wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Payton had an 8-9 record during his first year with the Denver Broncos. It was very apparent that he wasn’t on the same page with his starting quarterback, Russell Wilson.
Dismissing Payton’s résumé just because of one subpar season in Denver seems ridiculous.
For the record, this isn’t the first time that White has ripped Payton on social media. Back in December, he called him out for benching Wilson.
“I can’t believe Sean Payton the disrespect is way too much,” White tweeted. “Russ should never have to backup no [Jarrett] Stidham everybody in football know he can’t play. If you don’t want Russ just wait until the end of the season to move on. Terrible Sean Payton calling them terrible plays.”
If Payton continues to struggle with the Broncos, then White’s take will age well. For now, it seems a bit premature.
