Week 3 begins with a Thursday Night Football matchup between another duo of AFC East rivals: the New England Patriots (1-1) and the New York Jets (1-1).
Week 3 of the 2024 NFL season kicks off with a second-straight round of AFC East football, this time between the New England Patriots (1-1) and the New York Jets (1-1). Both teams are looking significantly different than in years past, with the Patriots largely starting over on both sides of the ball and the Jets hoping to finally get a competitive season with Aaron Rodgers at the helm.
The Patriots have had a rough offseason and were widely considered the worst team in the AFC prior to the season. Instead, the defense has flourished under new head coach Jerod Mayo and even managed to steal a game from the perennially slow-starting Bengals. Offensively, all eyes are on when rookie Drake Maye will take the reins, but veteran Jacoby Brissett has managed the game well and the rushing attack led by Rhamondre Stevenson has been effective.
The Jets, meanwhile, are hopeful AFC contenders with Aaron Rodgers at last leading the offense. After an opening-week blowout at the hands of the 49ers and a hard-fought road win over the Titans, the Jets are still a bit of an enigma. There’s no doubt the offense is better with Rodgers at the helm, but there are still issues. On defense, things don’t appear to be quite as dominant as they have in years past.
These two teams have a long and storied history, but things may be starting to lean in the Jets favor. FanDuel has the Jets as 6.5-point home favorites, but with a particularly low over/under at just 38.5. We’re likely to see a defensive slugfest in this one. The game kicks off at 8:15 PM ET and is only available by streaming on Amazon Prime—unless you live in either the New York or New England area, in which case you can find the game on local channels.
