Thiago Almada, as of now, remains an Atlanta United player. And as we (and countless others) have mentioned, it’s a matter of not if he eventually goes to Europe, but when.
La Liga has previously been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Almada, but on Thursday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that one club in particular is keen to sign Almada should one of its players depart. That’s Atlético Madrid, where Ángel Correa is being targeted by Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad.
⚪️ EXCLUSIVE: Thiago Almada is one of the top names on Atlético Madrid list in case Ángel Correa will leave the club.

Correa, who signed for Atleti in 2015 from boyhood club San Lorenzo, but if he leaves for Saudi Arabia, his countryman could be waiting in the wings. Al Ittihad, it’s worth noting, is managed by Marcelo Gallardo, who left River Plate after 8 years in 2022 but joined the Jeddah-based club in November. And technical director Ramón Planes joined on Wednesday just 8 months after accepting the same position with Real Betis.
Almada’s potential transfer fee has been cited as high as $30 million. With Atlético Madrid, who will commence UEFA Champions League play in February, reportedly calling pending a possible departure of Correa, it will be interesting to see where things go from here.
